Call for observation

Possible Occultation for Europe of a 15m1 star by 2003 AZ84

Despite the fact, that the actual occultation track is far away from central Europe, we call for observation of this object. The importance of determing the size and a possible atmosphere of such TNOs as an important scientific project should be enough motivation, just to give it a try. And the objects is in reach even for 8 inch instruments! More infos about it can be found at Felipe Braga-Ribas (LESIA) website...

Call for observation

Occultation of USNO-B1 0742-0417905 (15m2) by (50000) Quaoar for Europe on 2012 Feb 17

In the morning hours of the 17th of February 2012 the star USNO-B1 0742-0417905 will occulted by the TNO object (50000) Quaoar. The occultation track will probably pass Europe. Even if we can get no more precise update of the position either of Quaoar or of the star because of the close proximity to the sun, ever observer in Europe should use this opportunity for observation. The object (brightness in R-Band 15m2) is in reach for many telescopes with integration times less than about 2 seconds. And it is a good opportunity to improve the astrometry for the important event on April 17th 2012, where the star is 11th mag. Read more...

Predictions 2012 for TNOs, dwarf planets etc.

Special events:

Quaoar events from Europe

There are 3 good events for (50000) Quaoar observable from Europe or not too far away. These are:

17th February 2012

R-mag 15m1

17th April 2012

R-mag 11m2

27th May 2012

R.mag 17m5

All events are easy to observe, but they are not too high in the sky.

NIX event from Europe

There is an occultation by Pluto's satellite NIX on
21
st of Mar 2012 from northern Europe, very low in the sky. Worth to try....

Double occultation events for Pluto and Charon

These are occultation, where the same star is occulted by Pluto and Charon in the same night. They are very important for the relative astrometry of Pluto and Charon. That puts them on the very preferred list!

Pluto event

Charon event

R-mag

10th July 2012

10th July 2012

15m7

9th Sept 2012

9th Sept 2012

14m6

In order to simplify the management of actual stationmaps and other time critical information we will use from now a new Blog system. For occultations by minor planets you can look at it here.In general you will find the blog link on the outer right blue section of the IOTA-ES website. Or just go to http://call4obs.iota-es.de
